Frequency-Distribution

☼ Frequency-Distribution : The distribution ( table ) of frequencies in various classes is known as frequency distribution.

E.g. Consider the table given below :

Age ( in years )	Number of Employees ( Frequency )	Cumulative Frequency
30-35	2	2
35-40	5	7
40-45	7	14
45-50	3	17
50-55	1	18

Find (i) Class – size (ii) Mid–value of 50 – 55

(iii) Lower–limit and upper limit of 40 – 45

(iv) How many employees are less than 40 years of age ?

(v) The frequency of 45 – 50

Soln. (i) Class – size of each class = 5

(ii) Mid–value of 50 – 55 = $\frac{50+55}{2}$ = 52.5

(iii) Lower – limit = 40 and upper – limit = 45

(iv) The no. of employees are less than 40 years of age = 2 + 5 = 7

(v) The frequency of 45 – 50 = 3
