☼ Methods to solve Quadratic  Equation  :   There are three different methods to solve the quadratic equation.

 (i) Method of  Factorization

  e.g. Solve  :  4 x² –  21 x  –  18   =   0.

  Soln. 4 x² –  21 x  –  18   =   0.

  4 x² –  24 x  +  3 x  –  18  =   0.

  4 x ( x – 6 ) + 3 ( x – 6 )  =  0

  ( x – 6 ) ( 4 x + 3 )  =  0

   x – 6  =  0    or     4 x + 3   =  0

      x   =  6             4 x   =  – 3

 x   =   –

      Solution  Set   = 

 (ii) The method of  Perfect Square Polynomial

  e.g. Solve  :  4 x² –  21 x  –  18   =   0.

  Soln. 4 x² –  21 x  –  18   =   0.

4 x² –  21 x   =    18

 (iii) The method of  Discriminant

  e.g. Solve  :  4 x² –  21 x  –  18   =   0.

  Soln. 4 x² –  21 x  –  18   =   0  compare with   ax² +  bx  +  c   =   0.

We have,   a  =  4,  b  =  –  21  and  c  =  – 18

Now,    D =    b² –  4 a c

=    ( – 21 )² –  4 ( 4 ) ( – 18 )

=    729

Now,     and   

=6
