☼ Keep in mind ( For Interchange of degree of comparision ) :–
- Change of degree from positive to comparative and from comparative to positive.
- When comparision is made between two persons or things, then the given sentence is changed into positive or comparative only.
There are two rules for this change :
1) If the given sentence is in affirmative then it will change into negative. If it is to negative, it will change into affirmative.
e.g. Ram is as tall as Mahesh.
Mahesh is not taller than Ram.
2) Generally there are two subjects in the sentence. While changing the sentence the first subject goes last and the last subject comes the first.
e.g. Mita is richer than Sita.
Sita is not so rich as Mita.
↦ Degree of adjective also changes.
- From positive to comparative
As rich as
Not so / as rich as
richer than
- From comparative to positive
richer than
as rich as
not so / as rich as
- The change of degree from superlative to comparative and positive :–
e.g. (i) Jay is the tallest of all boys. (superlative)
Jay is taller than any other boy. (comparative)
No other boy is so tall as Jay. (positive)
(ii) Amit is one of the cleverest boy in the class. (superlative)
Amit is cleverer than many other boys in the class. (comparative)
Very few boys in the class are as clever as Amit. (positive)
There are two rules for this change.
- While changing from superlative to comparative and positive, if there is “the tallest” phrase than change in positive degree begins with.
1) No other …….
And change in comparative degree, phrase “any other” comes after ‘than’.
2) If there is “one of the tallest boys” phrase then change in positive degree begins with “very few”. And change in comparative degree, phrase “many other” comes after ‘than’.
In Interchange of degree of comparision, from positive or comparative to superlative is not possible.
