☼ When two or more ‘nouns’ or ‘pronouns’ are compared with the scale of degree, the comparison is called the ‘degree of comparison’.
⋆ It has three kinds :
1) Positive degree
2) Comparative degree
3) Superlative degree
1) Positive degree :–
An adjective used to talk about the quality of a person, place or thing is said to be in a positive degree.
e.g. He is as white as snow.
Mahesh is not so tall as Ramesh.
2) Comparative degree :–
An adjective used to compare two persons, things or the qualities is said to be in comparative degree.
e.g. You are better than them.
Ramesh is not cleverer than Mahesh.
3) Superlative degree :–
An adjective used to talk about comparing more than two persons or things or their qualities is said to be in the superlative degree.
e.g. Rita is the best student of this college.
Ganga is one of the longest rivers in India.
Remember :–
1) Positive Degree → as rich as
not so / as rich as
as much/many as
not so/as much/many as
2) Comparative Degree → richer than more beautiful than
3) Superlative Degree → the richest The most beautiful
