Dividing a Decimal Fraction by a Counting Number

■ Rule  :   Divide the given decimal fraction without the decimal point by the given counting number. Now, in the quotient, put the decimal point to give as many paces of  decimal as are there in the dividend.

 e.g. Evaluate  :

(i)  0.56 \div 7          (ii)  .0208 \div 13          (iii)  .000272 \div 16

 Soln.

(i)   \frac{56}{7} =  9.   So,  \frac{0.56}{7}  =  .08

(ii)  \frac{208}{13}=  16.   So,  \frac{.0208}{13}  =  .0016

(iii)  \frac{272}{16} =  17.   So,  \frac{.000272}{16}  =  .000017
