(5) The hands of a clock coincide after every 62 minutes of correct time. How much is the clock fast or slow in 24 hrs?
Soln. In correct clock, the time interval for coincide = 65 min.
And we are given that, in incorrect clock, the time interval for coincide = 62 min.
In every 1 hr. = 60 min., the clock is fast by 65 – 62 = 3 = min.
Incorrect Clock then Loss
62 minutes minutes
minutes (?)
(6) A watch which gains uniformly, is 10 min. slow at 7 o’clock in the morning on Sunday and it is 4 min. 24 sec. fast at 7 p.m. on following Sunday. When was it correct?
Soln. Total Duration = 7 days 12 hours = 180 hours
∴ The watch gains min. or min. in 180 hrs.
Gain then Hrs.
minutes 180 minutes
10 minutes (?)
∴ 125 hrs. = 5 days and 5 hours.
∴Watch is correct 5 days 5 hrs 20 min. after 7 a.m. of Sunday.
∴It will be correct at 12 p.m. on Friday.
(7) A clock is set right at 10 a.m. The clock gains 10 minutes in 24 hours. What will be the true time when the clock indicates 3 p.m. on the following day?
Soln. Time from 10 a.m. on a day to 3 p.m. on the following day = 29 hours.
24 hours 10 min of this clock = 24 hours of the correct clock.
Incorrect Clock then Loss
minutes 24 minutes
29 minutes (?)
∴The correct time is 28 hrs 48 min. of correct clock.
This is 48 min. past 2 p.m.
Best of Luck…
