Introduction
☼ Logarithms : If x is a positive real number, other than 1 and = z , then y is called the logarithm of z to the base x, written as
.
Thus, = z
y =
; Where, x
– { 1 } & z
log x =
( logarithm to the base 10 is called common logarithm. )
( i.e. If the base of logarithm is not mentioned then it is taken as 10. )
In Higher Studies, ln x =
& log x =
In calculus, log x =
( i.e. If the base of logarithm is not mentioned then it is taken as e. )
e.g. (i) = 1000
3 =
(ii) = 25
2 =
(iii) =
– 3 =
(iv) = 0.00001
5 =
0.00001
